Amaranta Montepulciano
Tenuta Ulisse
The main grape variety of this wine is Montepulciano, constituting 100%. Unlike the typical simple, everyday drinking wines found in the traditional Abruzzo region, Amaranta uses grapes from old vines with an average age of over 30 years, specifically harvested from a single high-quality vineyard site, with a winemaking style leaning towards premium-level red wine. The grapes are late-harvested to increase concentration and aged in small French oak barrels, adding an international structure and complexity while retaining the original flavors. The grapes come from a hillside in Chieti province, Abruzzo, at an elevation of around 300 meters, with a soil composition of gravel and limestone clay that allows for good drainage and is rich in minerals. Due to its location between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains, the climate features significant day-night temperature variations that help balance sugar and acidity development. The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure complete preservation of flavor. During winemaking, a long period of cold maceration and low-temperature fermentation is followed by aging in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, with a few months resting in the bottle to achieve flavor stability. Compared to traditional Montepulciano wines, Amaranta focuses more on fruit ripeness, tannin roundness, and oak integration, resulting in a smoother, fuller mouthfeel that showcases the refined profile of a high-end red wine. Alcohol content is 14% vol.
